Nokia BL-5C Battery will not explode !

Loading..Its only an advisory from Nokia. The battery will not explode.

The Nokia-branded BL-5C battery manufactured by Matsushita Battery Industrial Co. Ltd. of Japan between December 2005 and November 2006. This product advisory does not apply to any other Nokia battery.
Nokia has identified that in very rare cases the affected batteries could potentially experience over heating initiated by a short circuit while charging, causing the battery to dislodge. Nokia is working closely with relevant local authorities to investigate this situation.

Nokia has several suppliers for BL-5C batteries that have collectively produced more than 300 million BL-5C batteries. This advisory applies only to the 46 million batteries manufactured by Matsushita between December 2005 and November 2006. There have been approximately 100 incidents of over heating reported globally. No serious injuries or property damage have been reported.

Consumers with a BL-5C battery subject to this advisory should note that all of the approximately 100 incidents have occurred while charging the battery. According to Nokia’s knowledge this issue does not affect any other use of the mobile device. Concerned consumers may want to monitor a mobile device while charging that contains a BL-5C battery subject to this product advisory.
While the occurence in the BL-5C batteries produced by Matsushita in the time-period specified is very rare, for consumers wishing to do so, Nokia and Matsushita offer to replace for free any BL-5C battery subject to this product advisory.

Apple Takes iPhone Developers On Safari

iPhone.jpg

Cupertino has decided that independently developed iPhone apps will be web-based, meaning they can be created, tested and demonstrated on almost any computer the can run Safari. This now includes XP and Vista machines, immediately and vastly broadening the potential pool of developers. Further, legions of iPhone users surfing the web with Safari will only encourage site designers to optimize their pages for Apple’s browser, which in turn could allow Safari to gain market share among all web users, especially given the availability of Safari for Windows. That greater Safari adaptation makes iPhone web surfing more attractive, spurring sales, and thus the virtuous circle Jobs & Co. surely dream of becomes complete.

Cooler Vibez Than iPod ?

black.jpg

The Vibez has the kind of sleek design and innovative features missing in other would-be challengers to the tyranny of white earbuds. Now if you’re like most people, when you think of free-spirited defiance of oppressive conformity, you think Germany. OK, maybe not. The scroll wheel is magnetically mounted and actually rotates, with a glowing pointer whose brightness indicates position. It’s smooth, curved “soft-touch” housing looks like it could be inspired by high-fashion sunglass cases, and has a back of high-grade chrome steel. Compatible with both MP3 and Windows Media files, it automatically organizes your music library according to title, artists, album, genre and other key facts, even allowing searches for artist covers of original artist’s songs. It also displays photos and cover art on its 32mm x 25 mm screen. It comes in 8 GB and 12 GB versions, which are currently offered by merchants on PriceSCAN.com for just shy of $170 and $200, respectively.

Kodak’s New Wi-Fi Card ! Lets You Print Photos

kodak802.11b.jpg
Kodak has unveiled an 802.11b WiFi card for its Easyshare Printer Dock Plus. With the card inserted in the dock you can send pictures from a docked Easyshare camera across your wireless network, allowing you to share, display or print anywhere the signal is strong enough. The dock also becomes a wireless printer for any 802.11b-enabled computer or Easyshare camera. It should be available in June for just under $100.

So not only does Kodak not want you to go to Wal-Mart to print your photos, they don’t even want you to walk over to your computer and plug your camera in. This may fall into the category of giving us what we didn’t know we needed, or just giving us what we don’t really need, but either way it’s a strong attack in the ongoing American war on physical activity. Its been interesting watching Kodak reinvent (and save) itself as a digital imaging company, and it’s good to see that process involves innovation and not just massive layoffs.
